Well, here we are in the year of Rabbit. Isn’t it so interesting? Each Chinese zodiac year is represented by an animal and 2023 is the year of the water rabbit. The year starts from January 22nd, 2023 (Chinese New Year) and ends on February 9th, 2024 (Chinese New Year’s Eve). Just as the real-life rabbit traits goes, the sign of Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity in Chinese culture. 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope by the astrologers.

Chinese zodiac, also called shengxiao (/shnng-sshyao/ ‘born resembling’), is represented by 12 zodiac animals. And they are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Whereas, the years of the Rabbit include 2023, 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927… The Rabbit is the fourth animal sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle and each year has an animal sign according to the 12-year-cycle. Chinese zodiac years begin and end at Chinese New Year in January and February respectively. E.g. If you are born in year 1987, you are a Rabbit.

It’s been learnt that Chinese people associate each animal sign with certain traits and characteristics and that people born in a given year have the personality of that year’s animal. According to the Chinese Astrology, someone born in the Rabbit year will be showing common traits such as quiet, elegant, kind and responsible. Sometimes reluctant to reveal their minds to others and may have a tendency to escape reality. But they are always faithful to those around them. While there is no proof that the Chinese Astrology do not apply to pets, there are always some seen and unseen benefits in following the Chinese calendar for them.

Whereas, the 12 signs of Chinese Astrology are derived from the ancients’ musings about archetypal animals, people’s personalities and fortunes, and their relationships with one another and years of birth. In addition, the Chinese zodiac is calculated on a year-by-year while the Western zodiac corresponds with “months”.
